Applebottom - All Nite

  • Still in his teens and yet another product of the seemingly bottomless Bristol gene pool, Joe Arthur debuts for Kerri Chandler's MadTech with two cuts heavy on the bass, pregnant with ideas and refreshingly raw in execution. "All Nite" spends its first two minutes absorbed in rapid-fire wood blocks and claps, and deep, fuzzy kicks. The vocals exhibit an old-school garage quality, pitched up and down with alacrity before the main thrust of the track kicks in, introducing a flurry of latino cowbells and growling bass that brings to mind fellow Bristolians Outboxx, and Trevino's recent output. There's no sign of Arthur holding back on "Turn on the Faith." It opens up with a dizzying flurry of kicks, juke-style rhythms and a cut-up ghettotech rap, settling eventually into a crunching stampede of bass synths. Combined with some of the cheeky edits that are scattered around his Facebook page, these two tracks suggest we've only scratched the surface of Applebottom.
