Amber - Anyway (Steve Porter Mixes)

  • Next up on the Bedrock juggernaut is a release by Marie Claire Cremers and Wolfram Dettki, the duo also known as Amber. ’Anyway’ is the record and it comes with two delightful mixes by a man in very good form, Steve Porter. On the a-side is Steve Porter’s mix 1. The more downtempo mix of the two, it begins with some nicely formulated drums and a deep and rough baseline with a few notes changing in loop. The track builds with the drums and baseline as sounds and subtle melodies ring in the background. Trickles of Amber’s vocals come in and out until midway in when the baseline stops. The full vocal line enters the fray in unison with the return of that baseline, and then the track takes a different turn for the latter half when a synthy melodic line gives the production a little edge. A deep and groovy mix from Mr Porter. On the flip is Steve Porter’s mix 2. The drums on this mix are quite similar but the noticeable difference lies in the baseline used. It’s more bouncy and compliments the vocals quite well and doesn’t roll along like in the first mix. Porter adds an echoing effect on the vocal line and subtle melodies ride the production. A quality mix here and one designed for a later hour than the first mix. Two mixes here by Steve Porter of which both are absolute top class. Mix 1 is more of a dub while Mix 2 utilises much more of the vocal and gives it a more upbeat feel. Either way you will not be disappointed by this release.
