Last month, the increasingly prolific Jordan Peak appeared on an Arash EP for Jef K's Silver Network, showcasing a twisted Jersey garage sound with his remix. On "It's Time" and "Hanging by a Thread," released to mark Air London's tenth anniversary, Peak has pulled on his tough boots to stride purposefully across two stomping, big room tracks.
"It's Time" bumps along in frantic fashion, its penetrating bass peppered by dub-soaked metallic toms and fire alarm synths. The trippy washes that mark out the early moments of "Hanging by a Thread" roll in like gentle breakers, but Peak doesn't dwell on it for long, quickly working in some "Voodoo Ray"-style acid patterns that change the mood.
Visionquest's Ultrasone turn out what's nearly a blank sheet reinterpretation of "It's Time"; a clattering conga loop moves over its eight minutes, washed in a synth drone and pitted with sonar blip percussion. The Belgian duo's fine remix leaves Argy's version, which doesn't sound terribly different from the original, choking in its vapour trail.
