You won't find Rick Wade mouthing off on Twitter, adorning the cover of magazines or headlining festivals. He has none of these to help him sell records. Instead it's that weird old thing called talent. Famously one of the most prolific producers in house music, the Detroit artist's work is his hobby, too. If it feels like not a month goes by without another Rick Wade EP, that's probably because it's true.
Adjustment of Status is vintage Wade—crisp drum programming and swooning house grooves liberally sprinkled with classic disco tropes. The mid-paced "Ancient Tongues" is daubed with jazzy streaks. It sounds innocuous at first but listen carefully and there's a menacing bass drone lying just under its surface. The pace lifts with "The Day B4 Forever," the wide-eyed jauntiness of its bassline offset by swollen, syrupy analogue keys. The most compelling of the trio (for the dance floor, at least) is "Daddy's Theme," with its many disco samples providing flutes, elastic bass and soaring synths to accompany the wooshing steam train rhythm.
