Lawrence in London

  • Krush is one of a host of new nights that have sprung up in the UK capital over the past few years. Conceived in 2010 by a multinational trio based in London, it's become one of the city's most treasured underground soirees in spite of the fact that it's lacking a permanent home. It's come a long way in a short space of time, primarily because it gets both the little and the big things right. Their temporary home for Techno Taverna was one that neatly encapsulated all that's great about their sessions. A German-heavy lineup of Lawrence, Matthias Meyer and Stassy only served to heighten the dark vibes of their warehouse location in the Wick. First up was resident and promoter Nikos. The Greek native oiled the night's wheels in astute fashion, with Manuel Tur's sultry remix of Jimpster's "These Times" setting the tone. Dial mainstay Lawrence did his reputation no harm, either—his perfectly primed set of intricate techno was a welcome tonic to what had come before. In short, it was precisely the sort of intelligent fare we've come to expect from him, with off-kilter and obscure sounds finding favour throughout. Matthias Meyer's tech-heavy approach proved a winner soon after, although it was fellow Watergate resident Stassy who delivered the night's most memorable moments. Touted by many as one to watch in 2013, he culminated the night on a feverishly housey tip, one that prompted smiles thanks to tracks like Wbeeza's acid-tinged "A116." In all, the night proved a fitting example of why Krush has become such a staple of the capital's clubbing environment.
