Mike Shannon - East Side Slip

  • London's Half Baked crew are known for their nomadic Sunday afternoon parties in makeshift spaces. Earlier this year, the duo behind the operation—Remi Landaz and Bruno Ciaramicoli—decided to launch a vinyl-only label to showcase new music from names associated with the party. Following an EP comprising tracks from Le Loup, Seuil, Yakine and Robin Ordell back in March comes a two-tracker from Canadian producer Mike Shannon. February's The Excusionist EP found Shannon trying his hand at dark, tunneling techno, but "East Slide Slip" is a far more jazzy affair. It's comparable to early Cobblestone Jazz, with distorted chords that ride alongside the patter of samba drums to pleasant, yet ultimately forgettable effect. On the B-side, Thomas Melchior extends the track to 12-minutes, stripping the stems down into a maze of tricky minimalism.
