Jon Shanks & James Cummings – Afterlight EP

  • Sub Rossa is a relatively unknown and new label to the scene, but with this release in particular, it really should get its name out there. Jon Shanks & James Cummings are the culprits of the Afterlight EP, and their crime is releasing 2 very impressive productions. The smooth effects and sounds begin Obtuse. As the soft beats soon enter, the track maintains a great deep flow with smooth pads as well as a vocal sample that echoes in the early stages. Soon enough a clever deep baseline is put to great use as it gives the production a great deep house flow, a flow, which works with the subtle melodic pattern that appears in the production throughout. Really good house music this from the 2 lads. The beats intensify on the flip with Obtuse (Disposable Heroes Remix). From the word go the original baseline is put to great use, especially with the vocal sample from the original which is put to greater use in this remix. The beats especially keep this remix flowing to great effect. The original melody makes subtle appearances here and there, but what is really special is the great breakdown deep into the track that appears to end the production, but rather takes the production to its peak. Quite simply, this is a hot production. A great release that simply must not be overlooked. Already getting the treatment from no other than John Digweed, this EP is sure to get Sub Rossa off the shelves and into more boxes.
