Green Velvet has never been one to shrink into the background, so you sense that he's not entirely kidding with the title of this EP. Low-slung house it may be, but there are nods to '80s pop on "Bigger Than Prince," with faux-creepy keys and wah-wah analogue funk. Luckily the shuddering bass and an idiosyncratic deployment of percussion help prevent it heading into pastiche. Leeds producer Hot Since 82 ratchets up the tempo on his outing, laying down an elastic bassline before it eventually catches fire with the introduction of some angry, waspish synths. The Martinez Brothers offer up a Latin-grooved remix that, like Hot Since 82's, takes its time in reaching its final destination of twisted acid and manic synth trills.
