DJ W!ld - Feel Me EP

  • With seven EPs under his belt this year and a string of summer dates with Circoloco and Cocoon in Ibiza, it's been a productive 2013 for DJ W!ld. His latest outing drops on 2020 Vision, a collaboration that, given their shared fondness for deep, dubby, acid-tinged house music, makes a lot of sense. Opener "Rendezvous Love" is the kind of breezy house you'd associate with the Leeds label. A warm groove underpins a whirlpool of rising synths and breathy falsetto vocals, which appear to have been lifted from The Weeknd's "High For This"—the sample is so prominent that the track feels like an unofficial remix, which is no bad thing. "BCN," with its regimented snares, bottomless kicks and streamlined synths, is much techier, but a signature chugging bassline remains. Baring no reference to The Cure song of the same name, "Boys Don't Cry" finds us back on deeper ground, with soothing pads and mild acid tweaks layered over a bouncy shell. It's on "Feel Me," though, that W!ld hits his peak. That same quietly urgent groove supports hazy synths and a seductive Spanish monologue, the female orator's poetic glide making it an engaging number for both home and dance floor listening.
