- Sound Warrior is a new label and music collective set up by Jenifa Mayanja and and Dakini9 that aims to promote the work of female electronic artists. Pursuit Grooves, AKA Vanese Smith, contributes the opener here. "Love Hard" aims for textured depth and lyrical profundity, but alights on an overly deliberate chug and a grating mantra of "work hard, play hard, love hard."
Jenifa Mayanja's "My Reasoning" is better. It pairs a chopped-up sample of her vocals with gently clanging organic percussion and high, weaving synths to solid effect. Dakini9's "Trail Markers," meanwhile, has the feel of elevator music from the not-too-distant future. Its combination of clinking percussion and hovering pads initially intrigues but never catches fire.
