  • For its abundance of quality events and party-hard reputation, Los Angeles is a city that turns in surprisingly early, though a recent growth in warehouse events has set about altering the course. The latest artist to spark a buzz around town was New York native Levon Vincent, whose recent gig here marked a successful first collaboration from two LA staples, Plastic Love and Jack. The party was held in a modest industrial space downtown, with colourful projections brightening the mood in the main room. Resident DJ Jimmy Maheras started the evening with a deep and spacey set, as smoky silhouettes danced against the walls. After that, the Modernluv duo (Jeniluv and Moderna) took to the decks for a moodier trip that mellowed the energy. By 1 AM the Angelinos poured in to bask in Levon Vincent’s assertive and precisely constructed vinyl set. His techno grounding, inflected with a touch of acid and some tribal swing, engaged the lively crowd to the point of elation, surprising and delighting with each new selection. Maheras returned to the decks with Andrew S., another LA-based DJ, for a late-night techno set, eventually closing with lighter, classic house. About 200 night owls stuck it out until the lights came on at 5 AM, left to reflect on a truly memorable night.
