Tyson Ballard - Feel Like I Feel

  • You have to go back to 2012 to find the last time Tyson Ballard put anything to wax; 2011 if we're talking about a full EP. In the years since, the Melbourne native has been busy advancing the careers of those around him, pushing the likes of Elliot Thomas, Volta Cab and Freekwency through his Voyeurhythm label. Ballard's four-track excursion into heartfelt deep house on Feel Like I Feel is an impressive comeback. At barely a minute long, opener "Charges" sees Ballard ease himself back into a rhythm, setting up what's to come with a rising bed of synths and soft, cosmic chords. "Feel Like I Feel" picks up the trail, fusing elegant keys, earnest vocals and puffy bass hits to produce a slice of blissed-out house. "All Night," though several BPM slower, is better suited to clubs, charging ahead with powerful kicks, devastating claps and a synth line that sinks its teeth deep. Throw in some aching vocal snippets and you're left with a deliciously tense tapestry—and the EP's standout cut. Rather than stick to a winning formula, Ballard changes tack once again on "All Day." From the melee of fat, distorted drums, roaming pads and machine-gun snares, a silvery melody surges forward, rounding out an exquisite return for the Voyeurhythm boss.
