In The House - Kenny Dope
Label / Defected Records
Released / October 2003
Style / House
Rating / 4

It seems Defected can do no wrong at the moment, and fans of their brand of house music will be doing well to keep up with the barnstorming 'In The House' series. For the fifth release this year they have scored a real coup, Kenny Dope taking to the decks for a 3CD extravaganza of house in many variants - tribal, discofied, funky and jazzy.

Dope's selection of tribal numbers include his own 'Frenzy', a vocal tour de force of scats and the perfect intro to any party set. There's also the Jungle Brothers anthem 'I'll House You', and the Masters At Work's own invitation to 'Work'. A more soulful side of the coin sees River Ocean's 'Love & Happiness', Julie McKnight's sultry 'Home' and Mood II Swing, flexing their much admired production muscle with 'Can't Get Away'. The House Of Gypsies crop up twice with 'Sume Sigh Sey' and the mischievous 'Camarerra', and on a similar tip there's Junior Jack's 'E Samba'. The third CD of this excellent production includes MAW classics and exclusives, among them 'I Can't Get No Sleep' and 'To Be In Love', ensuring that Dope's partner in crime Louie Vega is never far from the scene. This, though, is where the manbehind 'The Bomb' explodes...
