Ernie Lake - Isola D'Amore

  • Chicago transplant Ernie Lake is a busy man. It’s not often that an individual can claim their job title to be producer/remixer/songwriter – not to mention Grammy nominee. Somewhere in between his busy work schedule, Ernie has made time to put together a follow-up to “From the Hamptons to Ibiza” with another laid back, easy going gem entitled “Isola D’Amore.” Featuring chilled out down tempo, bits and pieces of electro funk, as well as gorgeous melodies and lush vocals – “Isola D’Amore” is a musical trip to an isolated island where one can sit back, relax, have a cocktail or two and enjoy the sun. The disc is well done and obviously quite thought out. One can recognize Lake’s meticulous studio skills translating well onto the compilation. Two of Lake’s original productions appear on “Isola D’Amore”, along with other laid back gems that include Swayzek’s sexed up electro track “Make up Your Mind.” The disc acts more as a compilation than a mix, as the tracks follow each other sequentially (i.e. right when one records ends, the next begins) rather than blending into one another. However, the track selection is thought out to a point where it doesn’t matter – the album without a doubt flows even if beat matching is absent. Ernie Lake has proven to be a man who wears many masks – and it is awe-inspiring to see with what ease he can go from being a producer, to a remixer, to a DJ…and do each individual job quite well. “Isola D’Amore” isn’t going to make you want to break out a pair of glow sticks and race out to the nearest nightclub – rather it’s an album to accompany a day at work or some quiet time at home…a perfect compilation for finishing off the night and making some love.
