  • As the summer months start to come into play we look forward to sun filled days (well we would hope) heading down to the beach and all those day events that leave us eagerly awaiting the next one. Parklife has become one of those days. One that I and many other enthusiastic house lovers set aside in the calendar as soon as a date is known. This year it was to be the sound of Subliminal Record’s, Erick Morillo that would shows us that these day “experiences” (as I like to call them) only come around a few times a year. With over 20 years DJing experience under his belt, Erick Morillo has built a reputation that has been well and truly cemented as one of the leading lights in house music. World renowned for his diversity and epic 10 – 12 hour sets this man was definitely someone who I would recommend not missing. Arriving a little after 3 I was able to catch Jonathan Wall setting the mood, loving the Blur – Parklife touch!! It has been over two years since Morillo played to Sydney and it was clear to see that there was a little anticipation in the air. “I have been waiting over a year for this and I am Buzzin!!” was the call from behind the decks as Morillo threw out his first tune of the day. Track after track it was clear that Erick was to make sure that his visit down under was not to be forgotten. The crowd showing their appreciation with hands in the air and smiles all around to tracks like Lenny K - Are You Gonna Go My Way and an awesome Daft Punk - Around The World dub / remix. It was good to see him show his appreciation with regular intervals of “I’m buzzin.” Highlight of the set would have to be a 15 minute chopping and changing of Satisfaction between Benny Benassi mix and The Rolling Stones of what has been described as “unreal” Erick Morillo Action. Unlike his marathon efforts at the old Sublime we were only able to get 4 hours of his tuff, funky, soulful sound. But it was worth every second!! Fuzzy to be commended once again for another truly worthwhile experience, shame about your luck with the weather, again!! Only comment that I feel must be made mention is that Kippax Lake has to be one of the worst venues for an event. It’s between the SFS and Anzac Parade (lets put it this way it’s no Park). I will be starting a partition for Parklife 6 to be returned to Centennial, with two areas again, definitely the way to go!
