  • After seeing Carl Cox in August at his very own night at Space in Ibiza, when I heard he was to make an appearance in both Melbourne and Sydney, I knew wasn’t willing to miss this for the world. Arriving at QBH just before midnight, the club was already packed to the rafters which made for an exciting entrance into the club. Being from Sydney, I had only experienced club QBH once before and was anxious to see if it was as great as I remembered it to be. Making our way through the crowd to the front of the club, the bass rumbling through the speakers, we found one of Melbourne’s local DJ’s Ben Cromack ripping up the decks with some funky tribal beats. After spending half an hour exploring the club we made our way back to the front to claim our territory front and center of the decks. As 1am got closer the crowd started filling out around us in anticipation of the journey that Cox was about to take us on. He started off his set with Justin Timberlake’s “Rock your body” and progressed into his set amazingly. After an hour of progression with hints of the brilliance yet to come flashing through, Coxy had us all in the palm of his hands screaming for more. One track he played I remember hearing for the first time when Mistress Barbara played it at Chinese Laundry in Sydney last January, she wouldn’t give up the name of the track so its still a mystery to us but I have to say that when Coxy dropped it in the middle of his set and mixed with "it wont do" by Tim Deluxe, it sent chills down my spine. It was the best set I have heard in a long time with Cox managing to keep me dancing until he stepped off the decks just before 5am making way for Bens Sims who got off to a rocky start. After starting his set on the twin decks set up in front of the triple decks that Cox had played on, Sims wasn’t happy. After relaying his annoyance in a heated discussion with the technicians behind the curtains he was moved up to the triple decks and played the rest of his set up there. Sims played a great set which consisted of a lot of his own tracks which shows that he has a lot of confidence in himself and his music, however he didn’t seem to be getting into it as much as Coxy had before him. The lasers and visuals were outstanding at QBH and the atmosphere was amazing. One thing we all noticed about Melbournians is that they love to use talcum powder on the dance floor which left an interesting aroma around the whole club. Pato was having an awesome time mingling with the crowd, taking happy snaps for R.A and filming on stage with Coxy's manager, Ian beside him. Ian is amazingly down to earth and was nice enough to get Carl to sign a few flyers for us. I will wrap this up by saying that the Agentmad crew are a very hospitable bunch of people and couldn’t have been more welcoming on Saturday night. They sure know how to throw a party! Hope to see you all in Homebush next week as once again I wouldn’t want to miss it for the world. What a night.
