Trentemøller in LA

  • Trentemøller's performance at LA's Fonda Theater was a breathtaking display of his range as an artist. His music drew new and seasoned listeners alike: one concertgoer I spoke to had only heard a Trentemøller track for the first time on the radio that afternoon, while others were clearly long-term fans. The diversity of the crowd lent the atmosphere a palpable energy. Trentemøller and his four band members emerged as silhouettes against the stark, smoky stage lights. The whine of ambient synths kicked things off, undulating sweetly until joined by the heavy bass of "Still On Fire." "Lost," from Trentemøller's latest album of the same name, followed, acting as a well-judged springboard for the rest of the show. From there, the band flew through an impressive array of tracks that spanned the Dane's three albums: The Last Resort, Into the Great Wide Yonder and Lost. As his sounds waxed and waned throughout the room, the swaying crowd was mesmerized. Of the band members, bassist and vocalist Marie Frisker deserves a special mention. Her beautiful, haunting singing nearly stole the show, conducting stellar renditions of "Candy Tongue," "Moan," and "Even Though You're With Another Girl" among others.
