Lynx – Future Funk EP

  • The latest release on Gravitation comes from Steve McGrath under his Lynx alias. He puts together 4 treats to combine to make the Future Funk EP. Future Funk is first up, and it is a deep and progressive journey from the word go, with a good use of effects and atmospheric sounds. The broken beat drum pattern works well with the symphony of sound and subtle melodies throughout most of the track, until it concludes quite nicely with a 4/4 beat and tougher grittier effects. The ambient GTA Reprise follows with some down-tempo beats and subtle soothing pads. Dusk is the probably the darkest track of the lot. It features some tribal influenced beats and an eerie clattering of effects, especially during the breakdown and beyond. Travel is the better of the ambient tracks with soothing strings layered over some slow beats. It actually also works as a nice progressive breaks number when sped up to 45, and then pitched down to about –5. Not a bad release by Lynx, with a few tracks that are sure to stand out.
