Sumo - Yes We Will

  • Brothers Alex and Fred Sumi are both better known for their productions together as Sumo. Making their debut on the YO label with 'Yes We Will', the duo's original mix is backed up by one of Deep Dish's favorite sons, Chab, while rising stars Chris & Kai turn in two different remixes for overall enjoyment. Deep Dish have been all over this one last summer, dropping it every which way. The Chab remix finds the Swiss producer in familiar ground with a tough, deep remix. No niceties here as the mix displays soulful beats, simple b-lines and subtle effects. The lyrical vocal mixes well with the deep grooves as it reaches a little solo breakdown featuring the bassline. Minimal, deep grooves at its best. Fans of Chab will appreciate this remix. As the Original mix starts up, it is apparent that the mix will stay in lighter territory with punchy beats, twanging guitars and funky basslines. The vocal starts up straight away and stays as the overall summer feeling of the mix creates a bubble of warmth. The funky elements round the track off with simple melodic guitar loops and sounds. Chris & Kai get all lovey on us with their Vocal remix. The duo have opted to keep the funky bassline from the original as the vocals are cut up and placed through effects while looping them into a frenzy. A catchy melody appears in the second half of the mix and totally lighten the feel of the track. Very light, fresh and summery. The Chris & Kai dub takes a different route as the drums come out for a smooth, tribal affair. A heavier, distorted bassline with atmospheric samples constantly flowing over rolling guitar riffs. The vocals and sounds feel like they have been treated with the same acidy, echoing effect and give a whole lot of nastiness to the mix. Dirty beats laced with funk. Quite a mixed bag with light, summer sounds and deep, filthy grooves. Take your pick.
