  • For many of us the Australia Day long weekend heralded the breaking of all NY resolutions and where better to celebrate a few dry weeks than at a club classics nite! A newcomer to C&S could have been forgiven for thinking the crowd on Friday night hadn’t seen each other for months rather than the 2 short weeks since the festive trashbagging and amid the catching up and gossiping the party atmosphere was kicked off by a great warm up set from Mo Funk. After careful preparation at the bar, the first of the C&S Professors took to the decks to take us back in time and revisit all those classic tracks from the last 15 years. Jackster took first shift treating us to a slick set that included Basement Jax, Red Alert “the music keeps on playing” and some beautifully mixed up Sister Sledge. Tom N Terri were up next, pushing up the pace and throwing in some sillies such as “Pump up the Jam” (jeez, I honestly used to like that!) the standard of classics was once again high with few commercial oldies and more truly great classics like Shades of Rhythm “Sweet Sensation” by Tom only topped by some really outstanding mixing of “I feel Love” from fellow partner in crime Terri. Not sure about feeling love, I was certainly feeling old as the boys finished their set in style with “All together now” from Primal Scream. Then there was Taz…always original Taz’s set included some great old trance tracks (none of which I can remember the names of!) a touch of Phats & Small “Its my life” and sprinkling of Sugar Daddy all in preparation for “Missing” and yes the already manic dancefloor got really going! The crowd although good, was lower on numbers than I expected and the extra early arrival of all the regulars amped and ready to break their resolutions meant the crowd disappeared way earlier than normal at C&S, despite another great finish from Taz with “Children”. Mike McGrath was on last and the dancefloor was unfortunately empty as Mike played a great classics set. Always loving the surprise, Mike started with some older but quite heavy tracks before taking pity on us old folk - dropping the tempo down and rolling back the years with “Abracadabra” however this veteran was waning and even “Addicted to Bass” could not stop the hours of dancing (and maybe a few drinks) from taking a final toll…. The dazed, confused (and somewhat mangled) crowd left the first C&S for 2004 having laughed at old tunes, reminisced with friends; danced to some old favorites and returned to skool for an awesome classic nite courtesy of Betty’s Boys… The next C&S will be on the 20th of February, line up includes up and comer Brenden Ping, Tony Montana from London, resident at Met Bar & The End. See ya at the next one, just don’t tell Betty!
