Paolo Mojo – Kunteebumm / Freak Da Fuk Out

  • Paolo Mojo, it seems, is one man to look out for in the production scene. After recently stepping into the studio with pretty good taste on the DJ circuit to boot, it seems this man is destined for good things, and this two tracker on Music Is Freedom looks set to be a good step in the right direction. The interestingly titled Kunteebumm is on the a-side and the track is in itself as unique as the title. A smooth baseline and cavalry of quirky effects and smooth sounds make up the first few minutes of the production, but what strikes me about this production is the unique and non-conformed approach the arrangement takes. Despite this, it maintains quite a nice flow without, with vocal samples taken and put to good use, and smooth sounds giving it a warm feel. It is not a bad production at all. In my opinion though, it is the track on the flip that takes the cake, as it is quite brilliant. You will not find a funkier and more unique track like Freak Da Fuk Out. The baseline is seductive, as are the short stuttered vocal samples, and the track takes a wicked turn towards the 2nd breakdown, as eerie effects and swirls combine with the smooth bass to create a production moment of genius by Paolo. This is definitely the work of someone with a promising production knack. A quality two tracker from Paolo, and one that should also give a solid introduction to his forthcoming releases on Sabotage, especially his joint remix with Cass of View 2000.
