Blackwatch & Greed – Gentle Rain

  • Originally seeing its first airing in 2002, Gentle Rain by Blackwatch & Greed finally gets to see its release. It’s been so overdue, that the release comes with 3 interpretations of the track on this new label set up by SOG entitled SOG Chrome. On the a-side is the beefed up Greed 2004 Pain Mix. The title lies, however, as the production is far from painful, in fact it is quite a nice remake of the original mix. A noticeably injection has been given into the baseline which sets the mood pretty much from the word go. The vocal is slightly watered down as it doesn’t play as big a role as it did in the original, apart from little breakdown interludes in the production. Solid! On the flip is first the Live Mix which is very tasty. Quirky little drumbeats give the track quite an upbeat vibe, and the vocal runs quite wildly through the track making a pretty solid appearance. The change in emphasis on the baseline throughout the production is a nice touch, as are the stabbing effects during the breakdown that give the production a cheeky edge. Following this is the highly rated Original Mix, a mix that has almost developed a cult following over the last couple of years. Still pretty fresh however, with the drums remaining pretty tight and crisp throughout, and the vocal making a few solo appearances. All in all it’s a release that some may say has come decidedly late, but as they say better late then never. 3 pretty alternate mixes which should aim to please everyone, and as such, it gets my thumbs up.
