Revolutions In Sound mixed by DJ Garth

  • This latest collection of Grayhound tracks is mixed by DJ Garth and is testament to the tough yet deep house music they have been producing recently. Whereas a lot of house music from California is soulful and more laid back, Garth’s collection injects a touch of steel for a solid, assured set of tracks. It’s also pretty ambient, more so at the opening with Stranger’s ‘Fingers On Wall’, Rocket’s ‘Out With The Tide’ and Community Recordings’ ‘Lifted Soul’, all groovers that require little effort. Pick of the opening bunch is Ambusher’s ‘Know What You Mean’, an excellent, silky smooth deep house track. Garth takes the music forward to a techy sound toward the middle of the mix with Ebe’s ‘En Route’, the harder low bass of DJ Rasoul’s ‘Transitions’ and the sinister low range that beefs up Rocket’s ‘U Don’t Know’. Garth himself offers the psychedelic ‘Twenty Minutes Of Disco Glory’, remixed by the Mirror Boys. A good feature of this comp is that its sound progresses from mellow ambience through to a more cutting edge house style. The fact it’s exclusively Grayhound tracks doesn’t matter – the course of the mix is well directed and executed, resulting in a house comp that’s well worth investing in.
