Descent & Nicholas Bennison – Revention

  • For the third release on Propulsion records, Descent teams up with relative newcomer Nicholas Bennison to deliver Revention. Along with a handy original mix, the release is also armed with a mix that is done solely by Nicholas Bennison. TheOriginal Mix is first up, and it is quite chunky from the outset with a solid kick and baseline. Shortly after the first breakdown appears a nice set of melodic tones that meet the drum pattern in style as the track flows nicely for the next few minutes. For me however, the track loses its way just a little from thereon, as synths take it on a downhill direction for me. Nevertheless the track is quite solid and will definitely appeal to some. On the flip, Nicholas Bennison adds a tougher edge to the original mix but really focusing on the lower end sounds. The baseline is quite chunky throughout and the track flows quite relentlessly. The synths from the original mix make an appearance, which for me is unfortunate as it really doesn’t add anything to this mix either. Not a bad release here but nothing overly groundbreaking. It is worth a listen but it might not grab you as it really should.
