Donae'o - Mic Da Mic/Don't Watch Me Though

  • The latest single release from Jay Kay and Sticky's Social Circles label is another 12" from rising star Donae'o, who's frsh from pulling off a remix of The Streets' Don't Mug Yourself. Mic Da Mic sees Donae'o in usual form both on the mic and production and also the introduction of a new character Bredren Steve. On the flip, Don't Watch Me Though is a new cut which was previewed on Donaeo's I Am promo CD from July 2003. Side A. Mic Da Mic featuring Bredren Steve Donae'o can't get enough of the "bom, bom" bass lines that he first used on his My Philosophy (Bounce) single that was released in 2002 and he brings them back on this new track. In fact Mic Da Mic is a return to My Philosophy both in beats and bass and features a quirky keyboard riff to back Donae'o and Bredren Steve's (who sounds like a Brit version of Pee Wee Herman) raps. Flip it over for an instrumental cut as well. Side B2. Don't Watch Me Though A slightly more serious tune, Don't Watch Me Though features big hollow drum effects, deep bass, long synth lines and keyboard stabs while Donae'o tells you to get out of his face. My pick of the two tunes here. After 2 years in the business, it's disappointing to see that Donae'o hasn't gone very far with his production skills, still keeping things sounding the same as with earlier tunes.
