Anthony Pappa was outstanding.
Last minute decision to go to a gig that in all reality I was always probably going to attend. Which led me free from post-club anxiety which is inherent these days for me.
Pappa proved to me that there is a difference between our local DJ's and the upper echleon of Internationals. And I mean.....why wouldn't there be. These guys compete in a cut throat environement where every more is analysed and there are 1000's ready to take their place at any given time.
Pappa's set was like a massive jigsaw puzzle. Intricate while never losing its sense of power of grunt. He started strong and never let off. Floating trance and thumping melody making this INTENSELY dancable. He eased off an hour or so in yet there was enough going on that you never lost your interest. However....during this period there was an underlying sense that something was building. Yet this was so subtle you weren't quite sure what. Then with a smile....then a tweak.....he let the place go. Subtely building pressure.
His mixing was supreme. The difference for me with these guys is that 5 tracks can be pasted into one. It is SEEMLESS. It is not simply a case of mixing out 1 into another. Things are so layered and deep. Who knows when and where he is bringing things in. And the clarity and power he got out of the sound system was incredible.
Musical.....melody.....power. And great crowd. I danced like there was no tomorrow...which I haven't done for some time.
Big ups to Centro. I don't remember that venue being as condusive for that kind of night in the past. Has something changed there recently? Big ups to some long lost clubbing buddies joining me for the fun (these guys haven't clubbed in years.....due to total loss of enjoyment. I was fielding calls from them all Saturday praising the gig they had heard!)
Only down point. Slicing my finger open on a broken glass grabbing my beer on the side of dancefloor. I know I know. What was I leaving my beer there for? Where else does one though? I hate dancin with a drink!!! Plus....how many drinks did I lose throughout the night!.
Small gripe on a great night. Only wish I could've have taken that set home with me to relive!
