Hypnotic State - Kick It

  • Bill Vega's solo project Hypnotic State returns for another release on his own Full Intent Records imprint after the well received and highly successful "Give Me A Break" which was released mid 2003. Kick It sees Hypnotic State in true genre hopping form with a remix courtesy of En:vision signee High Eight. Side A. Original Mix Kick It kicks off with a percussive bongo infused break complete with handclaps and drum fills before quickly getting into it's acid induced bass hook. The first breakdown introduces an electro synth hook which continues throughout the tune and later on in the piece, the second breakdown involves a trancier synth hook. The title of the tune itself comes from the old skool hip hop vocals that get sampled in. It's a mash up of trance, electro and progressive all taken in a breakbeat context. Side B. High Eight Remix High Eight takes the tune and gives it a dirtier twist. Farty, acid bass which sits nicely with the electro hook taken from the original. As can be heard with High Eight productions (and anything related to Future Funk Squad) the drums are nice and clean with crisp sounding snares. It's designed for darker sets but doesn't quite have the vibrant energy of the original.
