Sasha at Sounds on Sunday - The Greenwood Hotel, Sydney

  • Sasha is truly a Musical Superstar and Sunday at the Greenwood certainly reinforced his postion AS the cutting edge of Progressive House. I have been a fan of Sasha since the early days at Shelleys in Stoke, through working the sweaty baggy crowds at Shine in the Hacienda, the big events like creamfields and a memorable Airdrawndagger of an event at the Southport weekender back in 2002 so you can imagine how excited i was when I saw he was to grace the Australian terra firma. But none of this would have been possible if I hadnt already been memsmorised into attending through the gift of Involver (Sasha's newest musical re-mix prophecy). Anyone who has been touched by the hands of Burma, or looked into the re-working of Felix Da Cats 'cyberwhore' will know exactly what I mean. Sublime, creative and so musically advanced (produced entirely on Abelton Software) to leave a friend of mine dancing on his chair after the first listen! So sunday came and all the 'pre-match' nerves of a new venue engulfed me. Soon inside the cavenous venue with its Gothic stye windows adding a more etheral touch to some of the darker break-beat stye that is becoming increasingly prevalent and sophisticated (come on lets face it if Morillo squeezez those electro choons everyone is doing it!). Sasha floated aroud freely checking his kit and happy to talk to fans who wanted a camera-photo with The Man. As 8 o'clock appraoched, Sasha worked his way onto the stage, and sampled the Cyberwhore track into the first track with the hands in the air crowd pumped up for the next few hours. Working without vinyl and with samples from an extensive musical collection of over 30,000 recently catalogued tracks, Sasha belted out a set that journeyed from break beat to hosue, progressive to deep, ambient to agro and all at the highest tech edge. Recently quoted as saying that vinyl and decks have had a good innings and now it was time to move on with technology, Sasha wow'ed the Sydney crowd with a relentless set of new mixes and a touch of 'Age of Love' and the angelic 'Belong' as we move from old to new. My only complaint......no Xpander and how can you miss out Burma?? Apart from that I think that anyone who was there will agree that Alexander Coe AKA Sasha certainly came up with the goods! Keep it Involved Peace Rob
