My first experience listening to Fabric’s CD compilation was FabricLive.03 when DJ Hype put together an album that stayed in my CD player for many months. Low and behold my level of excitement surged when I read about the release of FabricLive 18, a follow-up album that was to not only including the talents of Hype but also my favorite D&B guru Andy C.
This album is absolutely smashing to say the least. From the opening vocal trickery on The Militia’s (DJ Friction & K-Tee) “Let Loose” I was locked in and belted up for what would become a busted speaker and a sore neck. The impressive track listing, Hype’s turntable trickery and Andy’s seamless mixing on this album is a guaranteed adrenaline booster for any fan of D&B.
The album includes tunes from D&B favorites including JB, Future Prophecies, A Sides Ft MC Fats, J Majik & Wickerman, Fresh, and Ed Rush & Optical amongst many others. As you can imagine, this lineup delivers a diverse collection of styles and sounds from tuned down D&B to the heavy floor-killers that have been coined by all the tops year round.
The talent on this mix is just as you may imagine with Hypes mixing skills along with Andy C’s subtle yet entertaining teases and drops. Both DJ’s stylistically compliment each other in a way that may be unexpected by many fans but prove to be a very interesting combination.
2004 was an amazing year for Jungle and many industry trendsetters have had a very optimistic outlook for 2005 and as we now find ourselves in the New Year I tend to agree with them thoroughly.
