I must admit to being in two minds about this one. ‘Strings Of Life’ was such a seminal track on it’s own that to add vocals seems like a travesty. If the history wasn’t there I daresay it would be easier, as Kathy Brown’s vocal is a good one and complements the classic piano riff really well. Still, no matter how hard I try I can’t get the desire to hear the original out of my head every time!
Danny Krivit’s re-edit is excellent, and there are some solid mixes from Funky Lowlives and the duo of Martijn Ten Valden and Mark Knight. It will be interesting to see if this supersedes the original – I doubt it will – but it’s bound to be another big commercial smash for Defected. Whatever happens, it will be good to see house music denting the upper reaches of the singles charts again!
