  • Saturday May 21st saw Koa Music, one of Tokyo's biggest psychadelic trance promoters and record labels, hold Hyper Drive at Differ Ariake, a warehouse venue with a number of rooms on former dumping ground Odaiba in the Tokyo Bay area. On this occasion two rooms were open - a chill out and main room with a total capacity of 2000 people. We entered the venue at about 1:30am and the place was already rocking; a near sell-out crowd in the main room going off to some wicked visuals, a kick-arse laser and a Function 1 sound system which filled the huge room perfectly with crystal clear sound. The music policy for the night was nicely banging Psychadelic trance, far more kickin' than I was expecting and a good thing in my books. I`d never heard any of the DJs before as I usually frequent techno events but I gotta say I was well impressed with the quality of tunes and mixing skills by all the international djs. The view of the party rocking and visuals from the VIP blacony above was great to watch over the course of the night, which ran from 10pm to 7am. Like the majority of the crowd, we stayed until the end before contemplating heading to the official after hours was held at a club nearby called Cube. Unfortunately we didnt make it there as anyone who lives in Tokyo knows, partying in this city is one giant playground and on any given night you're likely to get up to allsorts of stupid trix. Tonight was no different with us eventually heading back to my place for a kick on after hookin up with some random American dude, who had been on it all nite too (Hi Paz!). All in all a great nite, very good tunes and great event production - definitely wont be missing the next one! Big shout and thanks to Yoi of Koa Music for the tickets and passes.
