We Love...Sundays @ Space Opening Party

  • We Love....Space.......We certainly do! How one club can bring so much enjoyment to so many thousands of people every summer is unbelievable....and We Love’s 22 hour marathon constantly delivers. Reporting on all 22 hours would be a pretty amazing feat (although not an impossible one with a bucket load of cash and passouts); especially as we were still in Barcelona airport recuperating from Sonar at the time Space opened its doors at 8am. Eventually touching down in Ibiza a little after midday and finding our car, apartment and senses we were back in the car to arrive at Space by four. We knew the old Space terrace was still a Spanish construction site, “manana manana”, and wasn’t going to re-open until the 17th of July, but had heard that a new terrace had appeared down the left hand side of Space. The new terrace, almost the size of the old one, was three quarters full; three quarters rocking to Germany’s Tom Novy. It was fantastic to hear terrace music at a decent level - gone are the days when you could talk normally on the terrace. But for how long will Space get away with this new terrace....only time will tell. Its black clothed roof definitely doesn’t follow the new rules that made the old terrace warrant a new solid roof. Get there quick!
"The new terrace, almost the size of the old one, was three quarters full; three quarters rocking to Germany’s Tom Novy."
Anyway the terrace rocked big time indeed; it was great to see the crowd reacting to the unbeatable Space sound of the beat coming back in – happy days! It was also great that although busy, it wasn’t rammed, allowing us space to move and run around amongst the crowd! Inside provided a welcome air-conditioned cool break from the heat outside while upstairs when the Premier Etage opened, people grabbed the comfy seats and chilled. Soon after the Nasty Dirty Sex Music crew opened the Red Box, and played, you guessed it, Nasty Dirty Sex Music! Back on the terrace Nic Fanciulli, the new 2005 terrace resident, took over from Tom Novy, playing his distinctive chunky electro house. Great things will no doubt come from him this summer and now that Steve Lawler has the Thursday night Space residency it’s only a matter of time before the We Love faithful embrace its new resident and start quipping, “Who needs Lawler?!!?”. Groove Armada, reliable as ever, followed Fanciulli - however by that point the Jaegemaister shots had taken over and I retired to Premier Etage for a bit of recovery. 2 nights at Sonar started to take their toll! Moving inside it was starting to get serious: Ivan Smagghe, Justice, 2 Many DJs and the fantastic Jeff Mills making t another unbeatable night inside concluding the 22 hour party. Pity those that had to go to work the next day...but being Ibiza that’s not many with the majority just having to go to DC10 instead. Oh, it’s a hard life! Until next week...... Special thanks to Ian Richardson and the staff at Space.
