- This is the first of two four track samplers taken from Balance 007 mixed by Chris Fortier.This acclaimed series saw Fortier put out a benchmark mix of more obscure electronica pieced together and re-hashed in a devastating three disk package making up a new sound in itself .
Side A sees the rumbling funk of Hello?Is this thing on? from !!!(Chk Chk Chk) gather momentum from the start with dark guitar riffs that provide a build while effected vocals drift in.The elements ease out for the break as an eerie synthline prepares us for the percussive mayhem that follows.
Track two is where Balance 007 began - The Deep from Global Communications which is a gradual contortion of flanged percussion over a light-headed beat and bassline.The sound created is slightly minimal in places as airy pads form a mist underneath every so often but its the effected,tweaked sound that provides the pleasure.
On the flip side are two of the more uplifting numbers.Micah's swollen booty mix of As you fall from Bent was one of the standout tracks on this compilation having a dreamy blend of soothing melodies and calming vocals.Interspersed throughout are classical elements that strengthen its organic quality and take it to a higher level.
Last up is the more laid back Raio from Ramiro Musotto.Its got an injection of funk but at a slower pace as differing guitar riffs work their way into a mix of clakety percussion and reverberated sounds .
Balance 007 displayed a more versatile and diverse style from Chris Fortier that wasn't just a whole bunch of prog tracks you would have expected to hear.This is just a snippet.
