DJ Mutiny - Pressure Time/The Chase

  • Funkatech label boss, DJ Mutiny has been quite busy lately juggling around a full time job, running a breakbeat label and still managing to pull out a tune or two, all the while taking care of his family! For his latest release on Wireframe, he makes a long-awaited follow up on the label from 2003's War On The Streets/Synthetic. Side A. Pressure Time Kicking off with a loaded introduction which incorporates a razor sharp electro lick, dancefloor oriented breakbeat, bongo percussion and deep growling underlay, Pressure Time is the tune where DJ Mutiny has found his sound. The first breakdown introduces ears to a twangy and funky guitar lick, ravey sirens and wails before a heavy bassline kicks in with a trademark Mutiny breakbeat tagging along for the ride. Nice work. Side B. The Chase Seems like funky guitar riffs are the order of the day for this DJ Mutiny release as he lifts a classic guitar riff from an old funk tune and makes it sound badder than evil. The Chase is a adrenalin-infused ride of heavy b-line breaks meets b-boy funk with a charged up, heavily syncopated breakbeat - no plodding 4/4 beats can be found here - loaded with drum fills and wicked percussive rolls. Combine this with a wicked bassline, clever use of stops and drops and you can't go wrong.
