Joakim - I Wish You Were Gone

  • Innovative French producer Joakim (of 'Budapest' fame) makes a long overdue return to record stores with ‘I Wish You Were Gone’, the latest release for France's Versatile Records. On the original of 'I Wish You Were Gone', Joakim combines all the ingredients necessary for a future club hit, even including an air guitar moment. The track evolves around a rock tinged melody followed by a healthy dose of cosmic hooks and leads that build up into a simultaneous vortex enclosed by male vocals. An oh-so-catchy chorus then drops and should have many of the guys and girls in full air guitar motion come the end of the night. The Dub on this 12” is consistent with all of Joakim’s past releases on other labels including Crosstown Rebels and Kitsune Music. This one gets a bit more euphoric with an ever-increasing growl of twisted synths, marauding samples and downright dirty grooves. This latest release for Joakim definitely fits the bill for late night/early morning departures into the deeper depths of electronic music with a guitar/synth/rock edge. Based on the strength of these two cuts, expect to hear more strong music coming from Joakim and Versatile Records. Viva the French New Wave!
