Far Too Loud - Dis Da Rasta/The Touchdown

  • DJ Mutiny's Funkatech imprint has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a sister label to DJ Quest's Cyberfunk. Far Too Loud are a trio from London comprised of Olly a classical violinist, Oli a jazz sax player and Dom who's been immersed in the electronic music scene since the age of 10. Together they've put out releases on labels like 777 and Broke which have earned the boys critical acclaim from reviews and producers alike. For Funkatech, they've pieced together one bassline booming ragga breaker and one massive electro-infused stomper. Dis Da Rasta starts off with a Evil Nine style break (thanks to the double kick drums) with a warning bell bassline accompanied by ragga vocals, reggae keys and space arpeggios. After the intro, a ground-shaking rolling bassline takes over with a spacey keyboard solo taking the reigns while ragga shouts drop in at random intervals. Towards the end, after a massive breakdown, the tune straddles the styles of punk, reggae and space jazz on top of a big breakbeat. Worth a listen for sure! On the flip The Touchdown takes things back to the sounds of electro breaks and opens up with an energetic breakbeat loaded with techy hooks on top. The beat then drops into another rolling bassline wehich is guaranteed to get adrenaline levels surging throughout the tune. Far Too Loud then provide a quaint and catchy synth melody on top and underneath this, they modify the bass tone and melody to give the tune plenty of variation. What a release and it's certainly a different world away from the bassline craze that had permeated the breaks scene in 2004!
