Rebel Sketchy - Submarine/Good To You

  • Following up his debut on Superstyle Deluxe's Payback Project with the massive "The Interview" with a big Drumattic Twins remix, Rebel Sketchy delivers his first double sided 12 for the label with Submarine/Good To You. Submarine disembarks with the classic "This should be played at high volume" vocal sample and a subtle hi-hat and bassline combo during the intro. During the first breakdown, Rebel introduces a damn funky synth workout which is then beefed up by a highly energetic breakbeat - as one would come to expect from the Payback label - but I think the title of the tune comes from the deep, growling basslines, sonar blips and naval sweeps during the middle of the tune. Good To You on the flip takes a slightly different breakbeat still full of Rebel's big energetic vibe. This time the tune title comes courtesy of the heavily chopped up female vocal sample that is played throughout and comes complete with Rebel's trademark squelchy acid stabs and rolling basslines. During the middle breakdown, Rebel introduces a new bassline melody which continues until the end.
