Rhythm Mechanic - Flux

  • Representing from North Carolina USA is Rhythm Mechanic, a relatively new producer who started out playing punk music and eventually settled down with dance music playing support gigs to the likes of Hyper, Dara and US drum'n'bass don AK1200. For Erase, Rhythm Mechanic delivers the tech-funk flavoured Flux with a remix provided courtesy of Zimbardo Zigmund Slezak. The original starts off with a rocking bassline and breakbeat - it certainly seems that Rhythm Mechanic can't completely shake off his punk roots. On top he lays down a funky guitar riff, rocky drum fills and percussive grooves to create a dark, rolling intro. During the breakdown, RM introduces acid squelches before dropping a heavy growling bassline. Halfway through the tune, a massive synth line and wobble board come into play and are helped out by crowd chanting in the background. Really heavy 3 a.m. dancefloor business. On a 4/4 tip comes the remix from Zimbardo Zigmund Slezak who give the tune a nice bouncy feel during the intro. A huge squelchy synth gives the tune it's hook and it's complimented with subtle sweeps in the background and bubbly electro work. During the breakdown, a vocal sample is introduced before the tune returns to the squelchy electro business from earlier.
