Seph - Voidiov EP

  • This is the first release on 11:00 a.m., a sublabel of Spanish label Esperanza intended as a platform for “expanded and rarefied atmospheres”. Not sure about that, but they’ve certainly got the minimal techno thing down pat, with ‘Voidiv’ – a re-edit that first surfaced on Foundsound – driving and dark enough to keep the floor full and shaking. It’s built around subtle clicks and a hopping melody, and there’s a nastiness to it, but it’s all about the forward motion and simplicity. I like. The Bruno Pronsato remix starts less hasty with a weird siren which is going to really freak people out. The melody is more evident here than on the original, and there’s a teasing breakdown before the signature vocal comes in all paranoid and itchy. If you’ve heard any of Magda’s sets lately this fits the bill straight up. ‘Tiks’ is more interesting structure-wise, with samples wiggling and skipping to put you in a more rhythmic mood. Most impressive is the slow growth of the piece, which manages to keep hold of an intensity without actually changing much. Overall, the Argentinean Seph kicks off the label in style, while the ever-consistent Bruno Pronsato proves his worth again. They’re leaving the obvious stuff to the main room, but there are a lot of ideas in this smaller space.
