John Daly - Mesa

  • Ireland's John Daly has already grabbed serious amounts of attention with his releases on Wave Music and Switzerland's Plak Recordings. Now he returns to Feel Music, the label that gave him his debut, with two versions of the one track, ‘Mesa’. Once again on this twelve, Daly brings us deep, ice cold waves of slow motion disco with a magical, melancholy feel. The original mix of ‘Mesa’ is based on one rippling majestic sequence of chords that form the perfect loop, one that could repeat for twenty or thirty minutes without you even noticing. It's yet another example of Daly's pure house music sound. A beatless remix on the flipside sounds a little like a lost cut from a 70s film soundtrack, or even Lindstrom, and provides an interesting and more dramatic reimagining. But the same disconnected, melancholy feel permeates both versions. The sounds are so well sculpted that these tracks hit you instantly, yet this record is deeper and more reflective than most. ‘Mesa’ is another effortlessly immersive release from John Daly, and all that's left for the listener to do is sit back, switch off, and dive in.
