Ibiza institution and clubbing brand We Love... offer up a couple of exclusives from Riton and Serge Santiago to coincide with the release of the first 'We Love...' compilation CD. Riton holds fort on the main floor, while Santiago has a crack at the sun-bathed terrace.
'R2D2' is aptly named. Santiago has found himself the synth that made R2D2 bleep and gone to town with it. The result sounds like the tiny droid drank too many vodka red bulls and fancied himself a freestyle rapper. And while a drunk R2D2 slurring over tight tech house beats may not sound enticing, it works. It’s a playful, dubby production that FX and EQ tweaking DJs will go nuts for.
Riton’s 'Sound of the Studio' doesn’t quite match up to his counterpart. It’s electro and ravey with a cool sample of a studio jock giving the lowdown on his favourite effects, but it really doesn’t get past first gear. This is a slow grind that might be a decent set opener, but it lacks the oomph that Riton usually delivers.
The personalities of these two talented musicians clearly shine through on this EP. Riton’s signature grit and Santiago’s glitchy tech are here in abundance, but neither cut will probably have a shelf life beyond the mix CD they were taken from.
