If you want proof that Vakant’s distinctive take on main room minimal techno is firing on all cylinders at the moment, look no further than this EP. Argentinean Nico Purman is a newbie on Vakant, but he’s also riding high after an excellent EP on Crosstown Rebels this summer. Added together, his recent releases create a feeling that Purman is a name to watch.

Both sides of the Tuesday EP are structured, stark tech house cuts made from metallic Roland TR beats and cavernous FX that recall the likes of Plastikman. And while the grooves might be geared towards the dark end of the dancefloor, the elements are balanced enough to keep the music uplifting: the ghostly FX find the right balance between order and messiness, and the result is techno that never sounds samey or empty. The A-side ‘Tuesday’ is the more upbeat of the two, creating an appealing sense of urgency with stark beats and ghostly pings and echoes, while the B-side, ‘Muela Pain’, is more rolling, moody and melodic—a nice tool for earlier on in the night.

Wed, 30 Jan 2008Nice EP. As the last two comments state it doesn't mention the third track which is only on the Beatport release and is well worth a listen.

'Tuesday' however is the clincher for me on this one, gorgeous production and fits the Vakant sound very well.

Have kept my eyes on Nico Purman since his release on Crosstown Rebels and will waiting patiently for the next release.
