Transmission's 6th Birthday

  • After seeing a huge advertising campaign in the local street press going on for about 2 months previous to the event, the hype was quickly built up that Transmission's 6th birthday was going to be an event of epic proportions, especially with all the feature articles about the 6 deck workshops, lighting equipment technicians etc. Sadly after all that advertising, it was mainly all hype. What could have really turned out to be an awesome 3 DJ's on 6 turntables face off became a simple adventure through the trance and hard house anthems. Organising my reviewer and photographer position around a month in advance, it was a surprise to find out that my name and my guest's name wasn't on the list. Big ups to RA though for trying their best to get me in. No matter though, thanks to the ingenuity of my friends who were already inside, I managed to get in. It's good to see the old Sports Centre being used for a different purpose, the lighting guys really did a good job with the lasers, lights and disco ball placement. It's a pity about the sound quality as a lot of times the bass really did distort and fuzz out during each set. Speaking of sound, with 3 DJ's on the turntables at one time, you could definitely imagine the DJ's crafting a really interesting set complete with scratches, acapellas, but most importantly - really interesting mixes. I do recall someone scratching the accapella to Eminem's Without Me and pulling off some nice scratches earlier in the night, however it seemed that it was not necessary to use 6 turntables that night - only one song was really being played at the one time. The DJ's could have done all that on 3 turntables (4 at the most). The Hexadeck (main) room was one for all the trance and hard house fans. Being quite partial to breaks, it was a must to check out Elroy vs KC's set or pH vs Pitty The Kidd's in the Nanotech Arena, however it was far too hot in those rooms and I seemed to have missed their sets... fark! Back to the main room then... Overall quite an average night and something that really didn't require 2 months worth of advertising in the local street press.
