"Six Figures" doesn't sound like much at first, but its see-saw melody is transfixing, and the effect by track's end is hallucinatory to say the least. (No mean feat for a five minute tune.) On "Bonus Beats," things continue apace but the see-saw is gone, leaving that creeping bassline and echoed melody to hold forth with the hissing percussion that whispers dub—but doesn't hit you over the head with it.
"Early Reflections" is perhaps closest to Vincent's recent 12-inch for Deconstruct in sound. More overtly dub-influenced than "Six Figures," it moves along at a rapid clip—a beat unburdened by the clouds around it, even as they grow more gnarled and fantastical. (It's helped in no small part by a groovy bassline.) For my money, though, "1000 Miles From Home" is the home-listening epiphany here. It starts unassumingly in what is beginning to sound like a patented dub techno style before unleashing a wicked little organ loop that writhes around without a care in the world. If you've ever wanted to hear a snake charmer dub techno, "1000 Miles" is your chance.
