Progcity Deep's latest offering, Manhattan Wax, is a collaboration from Spain's DJ Ino and Jesus Gonsev, featuring a mix from Detroit's Kris Wadsworth. The original cut is pretty typical Progcity fodder; it covers a lot of bases, not reaching any depths, and plays it very safe—a contending cut for the likes of Pete Tong's BBC show. The remixes are where it's at on Manhattan Wax.
Gonsev's Deep Mix takes the original and makes it work for the heads. It's stripped back and uses the elements intelligently. The pads ease you along with warmth and soul, while delicate touches of delay and reverb give a great impression of Madrid's deep, hypnotic late night vibe.
Kris Wadsworth's What Is House Music remix is a lovely contrast to Gonsev's. This is perhaps Progcity's effort to break their mould slightly, and Wadsworth fulfills that brief with a more Detroit-centric take. He does a good job of giving this cut a nice raw bounce—while managing to maintain the delicate ethereal moments of the original. What Is House Music may not have the individuality of many Wadsworth releases—but as a remix effort, it's top class.
