Gabriel & Dresden - Lament

  • Gabriel & Dresden are 2 names that have appeared on a constant amount of occassions in the last few months, the reason being quite simply that they are producing some of the finest music around at the moment. Remixing the likes of Jewel, Medicine, Weekend Players, 4 Strings, Way Out West and New Order, the duo return on SAW Records to construct a masterpiece of their own under the name, 'Lament' On side A the 'Original' mix comes with quite standard drums; a kick and hat in a standard arrangement. The beauty in this track comes in its Egyptian vocal sample and flute like sounds throughout. Midway into the track, a sweet baseline enters taking the original to that extra level. It is on the B side where the beauty of this vinyl lies in my opinion. Entitled 'The Dub For Satoshi', it is NOT a Satoshi Tomiie remix, rather a mix done by Gabriel & Dresden for Satoshi to play in a club setting (or so i am told by my good friend Simon at Progsounds!). The mix has a heavier kick and a more unique drum pattern with the kick and hats, more stuttered and less conventional than the original. The vocal sample is used in a fantastic way in this mix as is the melodic sounds, but it is the baseline, and the change of baseline notes deep into the track that do the work! Beautiful melodic Prog. One of the better tunes released this year on any label, not just the consistant SAW. Gabriel and Dresden can do no wrong at the moment.
