- Sometimes the press release does the work for you: Future Classic call the fourth and final edition of their Aprés series "noughties house," a reflection of how slow house has gone in the past few years via artists like Mark E, The Revenge and others. Like drum & bass heads gone dubstep, can you blame them though? When the tempo lets up, the possibilities open up.
Lithuania producer Mario Basanov knows this well, drawing down "Do You Remember" to a pace that gives his percolating synth plenty of room to breathe. Basanov isn't producing something we haven't heard before here, but it's a striking example of what can happen when this particular brand of Balearic house is done right: Bright drums, a wordless vocal and glistening guitars all feature, with timely chord changes sure to put a smile on your face.
Arithmatix!, meanwhile, dispenses with much of the build-up and goes straight for the jugular (i.e. the hands-in-the-air riff Basanov so carefully and patiently unleashed on the original). His mix is two minutes shorter, and only a little bit faster, yet packs a harder disco punch. Downtown Party Network go even further, ratcheting up the tempo to near Saturday night proportions. (The Aprés series is dedicated to Future Classic's Sunday afternoon events in Sydney.) Similar to the original, though, it does all the "right things" with pleasant source material, evoking the ease and breeze of the end of the weekend.
