Mr C @ Tech-ni-kal - Chinese Laundry

  • Richard West, aka Mr. C, is a man that’s been in the music industry for some time now. Many may know him from his Shamen days with “Love, Sex, Intelligence” and “Ebeneezer Goode” being some tracks that received successful releases. In fact 11 singles reached the top 40 in the UK charts. But enough of the reminiscing and back to 2002. Many should know that Mr. C is a quality DJ and producer who resides at one of London’s finest clubs, The End. His album, released this year, is quality throughout, and it should be no surprise that his DJ’ing follows suit to the high standards set in the studio. This has been shown in his Subterrain mix release from a couple of years back and again was shown on the floor of Chinese Laundry this Saturday past. His 2 hour set was an energetic, full blooded 2 hours worth of deep baselines and harder edged tech sounds. The set had no real build as such, rather it was a set that never slowed down from the word go. For me, this worked well, as Mr. C kept it interesting and lively for the 2 hours. Highlight records includes the Weed Cut of “Who Stole the Soul” by DJ Linus. The Mr. C and Murk mix of Mr. C’s very own “Circles of Love” thrilled those in attendance with its throbbing baseline, a feat matched by the very excellent “Sunshine” by the Filterheadz. Mr. C may not have totally blown many away but his quality was there for all to see. Special mention must go to the Alphatown Collective live act that played before Mr. C for their quality house and as always the ever impressive Phil Smart who delivered the goods after.
