Jared Wilson - Bonus!!!

  • As acid house connoisseurs will already know, the TB-303 is an instrument that's incredibly difficult to emulate successfully using software alone. Having the proper equipment at hand is one thing, but knowing how to use it is another. Thankfully, Detroit's Jared Wilson is a man with a one-track mind. The 303 is Wilson's weapon of choice, and there's no doubting the raw and powerful sound that he manages to coax out of it. Lead cut "Paris Massacre" is a brute of a track, its heavy acid line wiggling away atop classic Roland drums and spooky creaking sounds. Cynics may comment that this sort of thing has been done many times before, but Wilson manages to combine high-fidelity recording techniques with classic technology in a crisp and clear fashion, sacrificing none of the material's visceral charm. Scmocid turns up on the B-side with an edit of "Drug Related Stories" from Wilson's debut solo EP, stripping away the vocal and simply letting the modulated 303 and reverberated snap-claps lather the listener into a state of acid euphoria. It may be a tried and tested formula, but who can argue when it's done with this much panache?
