Sir Drew - Feet First

  • The latest and second album from Andy Meecham AKA Sir Drew, Feet First, draws influences from his love of 80's style electro and techno-ey grooves. Andy Meecham is also one half of Chicken Lips whose most recent LP, Extended Play has recieved much praise from critics. For the breakbeat heads out there who are familiar with Sir Drew's recent work on Kingsize will notice that 5 out of the 11 tracks (the intro does not count as a track) have already been released as 12's ie: Fat Foot, Good Girl, Mates Rates, Shemale and The Everything Woman all being highly melodic and tinged with electro influences throughout, with the latter being used as the opener to Meat Katie's awesome Seismic Sounds mix CD from last year and Mates Rates being a more uptempo tribal percussion affair. It's good to note some of the other non-releases on the album such as: IPU On a more uptempo vibe, this tune kicks off with a very familiar breaky drum beat from the 80's. Once the drums cut out, it's time for some bass line madness and some electro stabs. Bring back the drum beats and Sir Drew's got his first electro dancefloor bomb on this album, complete with early 90's house style piano line, 70's disco funk guitar and plenty of tech build ups throughout. Green Back to chilled, mellow vibes, Green is a neat piece of smooth electro - heavy on the hi-hat's instead of the bass drum; heavy on the treble instead of the bass! My Sex This is a real throwback to the 80's and you can hear the influence - similar to Talking Heads. Me I Was A Numanoid A slower yet direct interpolation of (or definitely influenced by) Gary Numan's Cars, this track shows exactly where Sir Drew's influences really lie throughout the whole album - dancey, synth heavy, mainstream and underground cult 80's dance tunes. This is a good album for anyone who is into electro tunes, not just for the dance floor, but for the loungeroom as well. 5 well recieved singles - Shemale being the latest release from this - and 6 more funky tracks to choose from. Not really something I would classify as breaks as the information sheet says - just some decent music. Slightly better than the Chicken Lips effort from earlier in the year.
